ZZ plant

“Easy ZZ” - One of the easiest to care for plants, as it will tolerate you forgetting to water it and can even withstand a low lit room! We like to say that these and snake plants “thrive on neglect”. Their new growth shoots out a vivid neon green, and becomes a deep forest green as it matures - BUT we are absolutely obsessed with the rarer Black Raven version, and occasionally get them in stock!

Common Name: ZZ plant, Zanzibar Gem, Black Raven

Scientific Name: Zamioculcas zamiifolia

Care tips for a happy plant!

Light: Medium to low light, indirect light

Soil: regular potting soil- we use Happy Frog

Water: ZZ’s can be watered about every 2-3 weeks, if that. ZZ’s grow out of rhizomes (they look like little potatoes sitting at the base of the stems) and they act like little water reservoirs, the ZZ then takes what it needs from the rhizome when it is thirsty! A hard rhizome is a happy rhizome. If it is smushy to the touch that means the plant has been overwatered and it should be left alone, and if the rhizome looks/feels like a raisin (or a brain) it means that the rhizome is dry and is ready to be watered! Sounds complicated- but its a magical thing that the plant tells you how to take care of itself!

Humidity: Happy in most settings - mist in winter

Ideal Temperature: Normal household temps between 60-75 degrees.

Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if consumed.
