Succulents
Ohhh these tricky “desert daisies” (yes, I’m quoting Schitt’s Creek again). So many different colors, sizes, shapes and flowers really make these babes highly sought after. As much as we love them, they do require a touch more TLC than your typical houseplant.
Common name: Succulent
Botanical name: Echeveria, Kalanchoe, Sedum, Crassula, Euphorbia, Haworthia, Senecio and more!
Care tips for a happy plant:
Light: they wanna soak up the sun! When they are quite young, you can start them with either Eastern or Western exposure, but as they mature they start to crave Southern exposure (at least 6+ hours of direct sunlight per day) - we know this can be quite tricky to attain in WI with our gloomy winters so investing in a small grow light to make up for inadequate lighting is always a good idea!
Soil: well draining cacti/succulent soil
Water: during the warmer months you can water every 3(ish) weeks, making sure that the soil is completely dried out beforehand. In winter they do tend to go dormant, so watering every other month is just fine. They do have an incredibly thin and shallow root system, so I cannot stress enough how important well draining soil and a well draining pot is for these babes!
Humidity: not picky
Temperature: average household temps
Toxicity: mildly toxic if consumed - be wary of dropping leaves around the human and fur babies!
